Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord - an Advent Series

Womens Bible Study: A Spiritual Walk with Scripture, Our Faith Tradition, and Our Lives completes its study of the Gospel of John on November 13 and moves into the season of Advent a week early beginning on Thursday, November 20 at 9:30 AM in the Library at the Parish House on Maple Street. The sessions will also be available on Zoom, and books may be purchased in the church office.

In Advent, we will walk with author, professor, and preacher Matthew Skinner in his latest book, Voices of Advent: The Bible’s Insights for a Season of Hope.

Matthew L. Skinner leads readers through biblical texts and explores how they shape our lives and Christmas celebrations. We listen as Jesus promises to return to us in the future, to John the Baptist as he prepares the way for the Messiah, to the faithful people and poets who anticipate the magnificence of Jesus’s birth, and to the angels and visionaries who praise God when Christmas dawns.

The author says, “Advent is more than the beginning of the church year or the Christmas season. It is the overture that sets the tone for everything that follows in the story about Jesus all the way from the beginning to its end. Like any good overture, it introduces themes that will come back to us later because it knows where the overall story is headed. Advent orients us to a sense of ultimate purpose —God’s and ours.”

All curious women who wish to deepen their spiritual lives and relationships with God and one another are eagerly invited to be part of this Spirited, interactive weekly gathering! For questions, please contact the Rev. Dr. Gloria Hopewell at revhope@gmail.com.
