For the fall season, we will be studying the Gospel of John using a book/video resource by Amy-Jill Levine. Levine is a New Testament professor and scholar who describes herself as “an unorthodox member of an Orthodox Jewish synagogue and a Yankee Jewish feminist who until 2021 taught New Testament in a Christian divinity school in the buckle of the Bible Belt.”
This curriculum is described:
John’s Gospel offers readers a new language—of being born anew, of living water, of wind and spirit, of the “I am”—that enhances how we understand the divine, how we experience the world, and how we participate in the mystery of faith.
With her characteristic wit and charm, Amy-Jill Levine introduces readers to the world of the Gospel of John by unpacking the stories in their original context, along with examining how the text is read today. This book considers the Gospel of John in its entirety, moving through the Gospel and exploring the prologue, the wedding at Cana, the Samaritan woman at the well and the woman caught in adultery, the healing of the man at the pool and the man born blind, foot washing, Mary Magdalene and Doubting Thomas, and the Lamb of God.
All curious women who wish to deepen their spiritual lives and relationships with God and one another are eagerly invited to be part of this Spirited, interactive weekly gathering!
For questions or other information, please contact The Rev. Dr. Gloria Hopewell.

Incognito: the Play
Incognito is a one-man, autobiographical play in which over the course of 50 minutes author/actor/podcaster Michael Fosberg portrays over a dozen characters as he tells the true tale of the search for his biological father. The morning will begin with an optional continental breakfast at 9:30 a.m.; the play at 10:00 a.m.; and a post-show discussion will take place until 11:30 a.m. This program is part of the North Shore Episcopal Collective, Leading with Love series that is a collaboration with CCW, Holy Comforter and Church of the Holy Spirit Lake Forest.

Newcomer Orientation
When you’re the new person at a big church it can sometimes be difficult to know how to get involved, or what all the different ministries are, or who to contact about what, or how to volunteer and get involved in all the great things we have going on at Christ Church.
That’s why on Sep. 3rd and 10th, 5:30-7p.m. we are hosting a “Newcomer Orientation”. This two-part introduction to Christ Church will be filled with practical and useful information to help you learn about your new parish home, and meet some of the amazing people who worship with us. Childcare and snacks will be provided and we’d love to have you join us.
To RSVP please contact Rev. TJ at TJ@christchurchwinnetka.org, or call 847-446-2850.

Centering Prayer
We meet weekly in person and on Zoom to practice the method of Christian meditation known as Centering Prayer. After twenty minutes of silence, we discuss the practice and read the book, The Path of Centering Prayer, by David Frenette. For information, please contact Elizabeth Clemmitt.

Friends in Faith
The Friends in Faith gather weekly to pray aloud for each person on our parish prayer list. Following this prayer time, we observe ten minutes of silent prayer or meditation and then enjoy a discussion on a spiritual topic presented by a group member. For more info, please contact Elizabeth Clemmitt or by phone at 312-618-1238.

Acolyte Refresher / Training and Ice Cream Social
Whether you are new to the Acolyte ministry or a returning member, we invite you to join us as we learn about this wonderful ministry where we carry the cross and gospel book, light the way for the word of God by bearing the torches, and help prepare the communion table for the Eucharist. For additional information, contact Wendy.

Confirmation Retreat
The theme, Our Loving Community: Many Parts, One Body, is based on 1 Corinthians 12: 12-27. This is an opportunity for the youth to get to know each other in a fun and relaxed environment. Contact Wendy for details.

Nursery Meet and Greet, Stay and Play
Families with children of Nursery age (6 mos.-3 yrs.) are invited to bring their child(ren) for a Nursery Open House to familiarize or re-familiarize children with the Nursery before they actually come on a Sunday morning this fall. We are having two Open Houses, please come to either or both. Children can play while adults chat. Our Nursery caregivers will be there and Melissa will be there too. We will have coffee, bagels, and juice boxes. This will be a great way to meet each other before the year starts. For more information, contact Melissa.
