Women's Bible Study
For Lent and the Easter Season, The Thursday Women’s Bible Study will seek wisdom and light in Ladder to the Light: An Indigenous Elder’s Meditations on Hope and Courage:

Steven Charleston offers words of hard-won hope, rooted in daily conversations with the Spirit and steeped in indigenous wisdom. For all who yearn for hope, Ladder to the Light is a book of comfort, truth, and challenge in a time of anguish and fear.
Former presiding bishop Michael Curry says, “Here is wisdom born out of a lifetime of listening faithfully to the voices of God. Here is wisdom we need for the living of these days.
++Rev. Steven Charleston is retired Episcopal Bishop of Alaska, former dean and president of the Episcopal Divinity School, and an elder in the Choctaw nation.
We meet on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the Library at the Maple Street location.
Books will be available for purchase in the church office, but come even if you haven’t had the chance to read in advance! Our discussions, led by the Rev. Dr. Gloria Hopewell, are always lively and thought-provoking! We also stream the sessions on Zoom.
For questions or other information, please contact The Rev. Dr. Gloria Hopewell.

Braver Angels: Red/Blue
This workshop brings together a small, evenly divided group of conservatives and liberals, or “reds” and “blues,” for a series of exercises designed to help participants clarify disagreements, reduce stereotyped thinking, and discover common values. This workshop requires previous attendance at the “Depolarizing” and “Skills” workshops or to have watched the previous workshops which we have recorded and are available to view here.
This group session is led by a volunteer Braver Angels Facilitator. Braver Angels is a non-religious organization that develops educational tools to build bridges between people divided over politics. We also partner with religious and other groups who use our tools in the context of their own traditions.
For more information, please contact Rev. TJ.

Confirmation Class
Confirmation is a two-year program designed for youth in grades seven and eight where they explore their relationship with themselves, each other, the Church, and God. The youth will delve into the overarching theme of the Church’s Tradition as they seek to understand how and why Episcopalians worship the way we do. Accompanied by faithful adult mentors, confirmands will be encouraged to learn about their faith by asking questions and openly expressing doubts. There will be opportunities for large group discussions as well as small group reflections, giving the confirmands opportunities to create meaningful relationships with their peers and their adult mentors.

Children and Youth Service and Children and Youth Ministries Volunteer Recognition
At this annual service, the children and youth do everything: they do the readings, give the sermon, lead the prayers, illustrate the bulletin, decorate the sanctuary, and more. Interested participants, please contact Melissa or Wendy for a role. We are super excited to continue this wonderful tradition.
A very important part of the Children & Youth Service is when we recognize our amazing Children & Youth Ministry Volunteers. We are so grateful for their guidance, devotion and faithfulness as Confirmation mentors, Sunday School teachers, and program leaders for our youngest members. They make it all work.

New Trier Food Pantry Food Drive
Youth Ministries is seeking volunteers. We need 6 -9 youth and 3 adults to help with a food drive for the New Trier Food Pantry. Your task is to invite customers on their way into the supermarket to purchase an item from the list to donate to the pantry. Sign up for 2-hour shifts here.

Braver Angels: Skills for Disagreeing Better
The Skills for Disagreeing Better workshop helps participants understand the values and concerns of those who differ from them politically and teaches essential skills for communicating across differences and finding common ground.
This is a group session that is approximately 1.5 hours long. It is led by a volunteer Braver Angels Facilitator. Braver Angels is a non-religious organization that develops educational tools to build bridges between people divided over politics. We also partner with religious and other groups who use our tools in the context of their own traditions.

Uncaged Art Exhibit Opening Reception
Please join us for an Uncaged Art Exhibit Opening Reception, on Friday, May 9, 6:00 p.m to 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Light refreshments will be provided and opening remarks from The Rev. Terri J. Morrissey, Deacon at St. Matthew’s, and Sanctuary Task Force representative.
The exhibit will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., from May 10 through May 25 with closing day on Monday, May 26. The exhibit is comprised of inspiring artwork by the children held in the Tornillo, TX Detention Center that opened on June 14, 2018. A local Catholic priest recovered 29 pieces, and later stated, "What came through in the art was the strong spirit of these young men and women…who, even under those conditions, were still inspired to do something beautiful." For questions, please email The Reverend Cynthia Rigali-Lund.

Rededication of the Skokie Valley Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
Join the members of the Skokie Valley Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 3:30 PM outside the east wall of Christ Church on Saturday, May 3, 2025 to rededicate the bronze marker installed on this site in 1977. It originally was placed as a marker of the site of the first church and cemetery in Winnetka as well as honored the builder of the church, who presented it with the cemetery to the diocese of Chicago. It also represents the site of the first tavern, built by Moses Patterson, from Vermont, in 1836. He was a courageous pioneer who was traveling from Fort Dearborn to Milwaukee and conceived of a resting place for other weary pioneers. He is also laid to rest in the little cemetery.

Braver Angels: Depolarizing Ourselves
Civil discourse requires mutual respect. Respect, not agreement, is an essential key for a healthy discussion. This workshop addresses how we may inadvertently be complicit in, or possibly even encourage, polarization.
The Depolarizing Ourselves Introductory Workshop is designed to help you lessen the effects of polarization when you encounter them in your political conversations. Note that by “polarization,” we are not referring to healthy disagreements over issues or philosophy. We are talking about how we regard and talk about large groups of ordinary people on the other side of our own politics as if they were enemies.
