Women's Bible Study
For Lent and the Easter Season, The Thursday Women’s Bible Study will seek wisdom and light in Ladder to the Light: An Indigenous Elder’s Meditations on Hope and Courage:
Native America knows something about cultivating resilience and resisting darkness. Steven Charleston offers words of hard-won hope, rooted in daily conversations with the Spirit and steeped in indigenous wisdom. For all who yearn for hope, Ladder to the Light is a book of comfort, truth, and challenge in a time of anguish and fear.
Former presiding bishop Michael Curry says, “Here is wisdom born out of a lifetime of listening faithfully to the voices of God. Here is wisdom we need for the living of these days.
++Rev. Steven Charleston is retired Episcopal Bishop of Alaska, former dean and president of the Episcopal Divinity School, and an elder in the Choctaw nation.
We meet on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the Library at the Maple Street location.
Books will be available for purchase in the church office, but come even if you haven’t had the chance to read in advance! Our discussions, led by the Rev. Dr. Gloria Hopewell, are always lively and thought-provoking! We also stream the sessions on Zoom.
For questions or other information, please contact The Rev. Dr. Gloria Hopewell.

Braver Angels: Depolarizing Within
Civil discourse requires mutual respect. Respect, not agreement, is an essential key for a healthy discussion. This workshop addresses how we may inadvertently be complicit in, or possibly even encourage, polarization.
The Depolarizing Ourselves Introductory Workshop is designed to help you lessen the effects of polarization when you encounter them in your political conversations. Note that by “polarization,” we are not referring to healthy disagreements over issues or philosophy. We are talking about how we regard and talk about large groups of ordinary people on the other side of our own politics as if they were enemies.
This is a group session that is approximately 1.5 hours long. It is led by a volunteer Braver Angels Facilitator. Braver Angels is a non-religious organization that develops educational tools to build bridges between people divided over politics. We also partner with religious and other groups who use our tools in the context of their own traditions.
For more information, please contact Rev. TJ.

Adult Formation: “Sex, Money, Power, Violence and the Meaning of Life: Can We Actually Follow Jesus Today?”
Christ Church is pleased to welcome The Rev’d Canon Professor Richard A. Burridge an internationally recognized biblical scholar, ethicist, theologian and social commentator. His fascinating six-week adult formation series has begun. During his career, he has been a schoolmaster, parish priest, university chaplain, academic, and professor, and he served as Dean of King’s College London for over 25 years. He was awarded the 2013 Ratzinger Prize by Pope Francis, the first non-Roman Catholic to receive this prize for academic scholarship. The class will be in-person and hybrid Sundays after the 9:30 a.m. service through June 1. Click here to join us by zoom. For more information, please contact Rev. TJ Tetzlaff.

Confirmation Class
Confirmation is a two-year program designed for youth in grades seven and eight where they explore their relationship with themselves, each other, the Church, and God. The youth will delve into the overarching theme of the Church’s Tradition as they seek to understand how and why Episcopalians worship the way we do. Accompanied by faithful adult mentors, confirmands will be encouraged to learn about their faith by asking questions and openly expressing doubts. There will be opportunities for large group discussions as well as small group reflections, giving the confirmands opportunities to create meaningful relationships with their peers and their adult mentors.

Coffee and Conversations
Experience the joy of being part of the Christ Church community by getting to know your fellow worshipers at this casual social gathering. Gluten free and kid-friendly treats will be offered.

Youth Group: End of Year Laser Tag and Pizza Party
Youth Group provides a welcoming space/time for youth in grades 7 to 12 to have fun, unwind, reflect, and serve others. It will serve as an opportunity for them to retreat from their normal routines, enjoy a meal, and have fun and fellowship with each other. There will be opportunities for off-campus fun activities (bowling, mini golf, movies, etc.) as well as offerings to use their time and talents to serve others. The focus will be on creating an environment of ‘being’, rather than on ‘doing’. For more information, please contact Wendy.

Centering Prayer
We meet weekly in person and on Zoom to practice the method of Christian meditation known as Centering Prayer. After twenty minutes of silence, we discuss the practice and read the book, The Path of Centering Prayer, by David Frenette. For information, please contact Elizabeth Clemmitt.

Uncaged Art

Save the date for the opening reception on Friday, May 9, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Love art?
