Global Mission

“For the mission of the Church, that in faithful witness it may preach the Gospel to the ends of the earth, we pray to you, O Lord.”                                                                                Prayers of the People, BCP, p 390

Christ Church believes the work of the church extends beyond the boundaries of the Village of Winnetka. In 2005, our Global Mission ministry began supporting the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago’s companion relationships with the Dioceses of Southeastern Mexico and Renk, South Sudan. As a result, Christ Church formed partnerships with Jesus de Nazaret Church in La Esperanza, Oaxaca, Mexico and St. Michael’s Church in the village of Paloch, South Sudan.

Our partnerships have included a wide range of ways to be in connection with our siblings in Christ around the world. We have traveled to Jesus de Nazaret Church nine times, along with attending the 2019 election of most recent bishop of the diocese. Over the years, we have painted buildings, broken bread together, created songs to share with youth, and provided financial support to assist with salaries and upkeep of the grounds.

Although South Sudan is a longer distance, we have creatively built ways to be in relationship: The Archbishop and Bishop have traveled to Christ Church to break bread and share stories and photos about his community; we have provided financial support for clergy, and we look forward to a partnered online Bible study with parishioners from both Christ Church and St. Michael’s.

All are welcome to be part of the Global Mission Committee—we meet monthly and look forward to having you join us as we live into the mission of the Church and continue to build strong bonds of fellowship in Christ around the world.
