Centering Prayer – Tuesdays - 2:00-3:00PM
The Christ Church Centering Prayer group is continuing to meet through Zoom while we are all sheltering in place. We meet on Tuesdays from 2:00-3:00PM. We are finding that our meditation practice is more helpful than ever during this unsettling time. Please consider joining us for twenty minutes of “resting in God” followed by discussion about Centering Prayer and fellowship. For a Zoom invitation, please email Elizabeth Clemmitt. Beginners are welcome!
A Basic Guide to Centering Prayer:
- Choose a “sacred word” or words as the symbol of your intention to consent to God’s presence and action within. (Examples: Love, Peace, God, Jesus, Silence, Stillness, Calm, Faith, Trust, Yes; or in other languages: Amor, Shalom, Amen.)
- Sitting comfortably and with eyes closed, settle briefly and then silently introduce the sacred word(s) you have chosen as the symbol of your consent to “rest in God.”
- When you become aware of thoughts, return ever-so-gently to the sacred word.
- You may set a timer for twenty minutes (or five or ten if you are new to this practice.) At the end of the prayer period, come out of the silence slowly, perhaps with a familiar prayer.
