As Christians, we are called to seek and serve those both near and far.  Just over ten years ago, the Diocese of Chicago formed companion relationships with two dioceses in the worldwide Anglican Communion, the Diocese of Southeast Mexico and the Diocese of Renk in South Sudan.  In response, in June of 2005, a small group of parishioners from Christ Church set out to survey the Diocese of Southeast Mexico, and Christ Church has never been the same.

The Global Mission Committee was created, and we formalized a partner relationship with the rural parish of Jesus de Nazaret in La Esperanza, Mexico. This relationship was immediately embraced by our congregation, and we quickly initiated a second companion relationship with St. Michael’s in the rural village of Paloich in the Upper Nile region of Sudan.

In the years since that first mission trip, Global Mission has become an active and vital presence in our parish life. We regularly welcome the Bishops of both companion dioceses to worship and break bread with us. We have learned about the global need for water, healthcare and education, and the transformative power of fair trade and micro-loans. The entire Christ Church community has enthusiastically participated in Global Mission initiatives that seek to change lives and spread Godʼs healing message of hope to those in need half a world away.

The generosity of our parishioners has also allowed us to support several organizations in their mission to fight poverty and improve heath the world over, including:

Heifer International’s Living Gift Market
Episcopal Relief & Development’s Nets for Life, Clean Water, and Micro-Loan initiatives
Ten Thousand Villages Fair Trade Market
Feed My Starving Children
